Prof. Dr. Arhan Sthapit

Prof. Dr. Sthapit is a Full Professor of Management and former Dean of the Faculty of Management & Law at Nepal Open University, the central university of the Government of Nepal. A management practitioner-turned-academician, he has studied Management, Journalism (Mass Communication), and Global Trade and Intellectual Property Rights in Nepal, India, and the United States. He earned his PhD in Management in 2014, specialising in Strategic Human Resource Development (SHRD), and is widely recognised for his expertise in Strategic HRM, Strategic Management, International Business, and Marketing.

Before formally joining university teaching at Tribhuvan University in January 2012, he gained over 23 years of industry experience across diverse sectors. His professional journey includes 6.5 years in mid-level managerial roles at two foreign joint-venture banks—NABIL Bank and Nepal Bangladesh Bank—11 months with GIZ (German International Cooperation), and 15 years with The Rising Nepal, Nepal’s pioneer English Broadsheet (daily). There, he served as an editorial team member and rose to the position of Senior Associate Editor (Head of the Night Desk). He has also undertaken consultancy assignments in strategic management and communication for organisations such as GIZ, USAID, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

Dr. Sthapit has published more than 109 papers—predominantly as principal or sole author—in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals, including those indexed in Scopus and ranked by SCImago. He has contributed four international book chapters and authored over 1,750 articles in national media, making him one of Nepal’s most widely read English writers. Additionally, he has authored eight university-level textbooks in Management.

He serves on the editorial boards of nine research journals and represents Nepal in various global academic and research institutions/ networks. He has evaluated more than 29 PhD dissertations as an external examiner, currently supervises half a dozen doctoral candidates, and has delivered keynote addresses at over four dozen international conferences.

Continuously listed in Who’s Who in Nepal since 2001 as a noted writer, English editor/ journalist, and university teacher, Dr. Sthapit is also a recipient of the prestigious Dean of International Peace Prize–2019 (DOIPP-2019).
